Foundation Courses, Conversation Classes & Specialized Workshops

The Alliance Française de Miami & Fort-Lauderdale offers French classes in a friendly, intimate setting, with a class size of 5 to 10 students. All Alliance Française instructors are native French-speakers. The instructors emphasize conversation and use a contextual approach to language learning, while conducting the classes almost entirely in French to maximize each student’s opportunity to practice.

Language classes at the Alliance Française cover 3 levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each level is divided into stages, and each stage is covered in one session (usually twice a week for 8 weeks, for a total of 32 hours with a teacher). Additional conversation and cultural classes are available as supplements to the foundation courses.

Our free placement test allows us to find the best class for each new student with prior knowledge of French. Consult Online French placement test or call 305.859.8760 (Danielle) to make an appointment.

frame Our Committment to AF Frames

Beginning in 2007, the Alliance Française de Miami has leds language education in the US by implementing the AF FRAMES project. Adapted from the internationally recognized Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF), AF FRAMES sets clear learning objectives based on a widely understood 'global scale' at each stage of the learning process. > Read more

Teaching Philosophy

Helping you build your communication skills is our primary goal. We do this by introducing everyday life situations and real-life communicative scenarios. Alliance Française teachers follow simple common-sense rules. They:
Speak French and follow our communicative approach
Allow for time at the end of the class to re-explain things in English if necessary
Encourage their students to speak since it is often their only opportunity to do so
Help students develop all four skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) with particular emphasis on speaking and listening
Spend as little time as possible on exercise corrections
• Provide relevant cultural facts and information about France and the French-speaking world
Use the textbooks as a guideline, but also present supplementary materials such as newspaper articles, film or television program segments, songs, photographs, brochures, pamphlets, etc., to keep the learning atmosphere lively.

Remember that your motivation is the most important part of the learning process. In the classroom, our instructors will give you hints and directions but they will not be able to teach you everything. Don't hesitate to ask for more homework if you feel you need it! For 24 hours of in-class contact with the teacher each term, about 12 hours should be spent studying at home. The Alliance Française values your opinion. Please feel free to talk to your instructor or to the administrative staff if you have comments or questions. Your feedback is very important to us.

Additional services to Alliance Française students

Are you stuck with your homework? Do you need some clarification about a grammar point? The Alliance Française offers a tutorial service for students who are currently enrolled in a French class. Jean-François will answer your questions every Monday and Wednesday from 5 to 6pm. You can either come in person or call 305.859.8760. We ask that you keep in mind that other students will need help during this time so we may not be able to answer all your questions.
